My oldest and I are watching Flash together. (Spoiler alert) We’re to the episodes where Iris is doomed to die. (But of course she doesn’t). This particular episode is a filler. Full of the typical things in a Flash episode. Meta humans, aliens, lies between friends and a pretty bow at the end, with a hanging storyline that will be wrapped up by the end of the season.
In this particular episode, Iris says she’s not afraid to die but she wants to leave her mark on the world.
Isn’t that what we all want? To know that we’ve made a difference in the world. To see our name in lights so to speak. But will we? Really. A few will be remembered. Hitler, Washington, Cary Grant. But even stars of yesterday end up cast in insurance commercials.
Who remembers the author of the breaking story in your local newspaper about 9/11? Who remembers the newscasters we watched, if we are old enough to remember, as we were glued to the TV that day? Who remembers the name of the guy who served you your coffee last week? The name of your great, great, great grandma?
Most of us live and die without being remembered by more than a few.
From dust we came and to dust we will return. All we are is “Dust in the Wind”.
Except there is more to this life than the Earth and Sky that Kansas sings about in their song Dust in the Wind. There is eternity. Heaven and Hell.
Until we get there we’ll not know what kind of mark we left on this earth. We’ll not know what kind of impact we made in this life. We’ll not know the number of people God put in our lives that were truly changed for eternity.
The truth is, it doesn’t matter if our name is in lights, if we wrote one of the greatest novels, if we’re the best gymnast at the 2024 Olympics, a great basketball player, the President, owner of our own business or anything else really.
It will matter if we don’t know Christ as our Lord; it will matter if we choose to live for ourselves instead of for Christ. It will matter if we say we are a Christian and live as if we’re not.
Eternity is truly the only thing that matters in this life.
Your eternity, your neighbors eternity. The eternal life of the guy that delivered your pizza Friday night. The eternal life of the gymnast, the musician, the President, the guy in the car beside you at the red light, those things matter.
Our eternal impact matters. That’s it.

If you come in the fall for any longer visit let's go to Elkmont for a picnic lunch and leaf peeping or Cade's Cove. Would be nice to talk a walk and be excited to see the beauty that is here. 🙂🧡
Miss you Christy and of course the fabulous Tabitha. Hi to all! Your friend in Knoxville from NtB.
